Of the hundreds of thousands of better examples the author could've used, they just so happened to use that one. Saying it's just an example with the word "could" is a poor excuse. When i look outside onto the 2 white umbrellas in the night sky when i look left-right-left-right while focusing om them they start becoming big and. Bigger and when i look at a light for a long time them close my eyes i see figures and stuf and other stuf. And colours and when i look at a light then quickly look somewhere else they follow the place i just looked at in a ray of light (I still thimk english is strange in norsk we have uhhh... 8 vowels. Please think a moment putting yourself in the heads of other readers. This is not a light issue, as said by some people.
