Project Orange Thumb

I have said it before and will say it again, gardening is one of the most rewarding hobbies. Whether you’re growing your own fruits and vegetables or planting gorgeous flowers all over… There are no limits as to what you can do with a garden.

It’s also a fantastic addition to any backyard and family life in general. Having a little green place lets you develop and live out all the creativity you can muster up. I simply love all types of gardens. I’ve also found that gardening helps a lot with PMS and depression. It really is worth a try!

A lot of people may think of gardening as dirty and hard work, but it really isn’t true. With the right attitude and set of tools you can achieve a lot with little time and effort.

Apropos garden, have you seen the winners of the Project Orange Thumb 2008? Out of over 500 applications, 13 were awarded community garden grants this years.

The things some of the winners have come up with is truly inspiring. I think my favourite has to be the Benton County’s First Rain Garden.

It’s located at R.E. Baker Elementary School and will be used as an outdoor classroom. It will be used for educational and demonstrating purposes which I think is a fantastic idea. More people should know about the functions and benefits of a rain garden. Great project!
