Fake Cockroaches Make Friends With Cockroaches

Oh what it’s like to be a cockroach… researchers in Belgium were wondering. So what did they do? They sent out little robots and infiltrated cockroach colonies to study their group behavior. One would think that they would notice that the robots weren’t in fact fellow cockroaches but the little buggers didn’t seem to mind them. Not only were they accepted by the colonies, they became leaders and influenced their behavior. And it all it took was for the robots to smell like cockroaches… just goes to show that don’t go for looks… it’s the smell that counts.
