Canoeist Charged With Two Offences

Memory loss? Yeah right. The guy aka canoeist who went missing five years ago and recently showed up at a police station claiming he lost his memory, has now been charged with 2 offences:

Obtaining a money transfer by deception and making an untrue statement to obtain a passport.

He will remain in custody until he appears in court on Monday.

His wife has yet to return to the UK, although she initially said she would she has yet to show up.

  1. His wife, Anne Darwin, has now returned to the UK and was promptly taken into police custody.

It seems she knew he was alive and that the pair of them may have witheld that information from their own children for 5 years.

Oh, and by the way, it was a kayak, not a canoe that John Darwin was in when he went ‘missing’ 😀

  2. I think Canoe was used as part of the story title by news media because a lot of people don’t know what a Kayak is, let alone a Kayaker.

  3. That’s very true Cole and I myself referred to it as a canoe myself. That was before I had someone point out the error of my ways.. before he then pointed it out to CNN and the BBC too!

  4. I’ve actually only seen one single web site where they referred to him as the “kayaker”. Perhaps “canoeist” sounded more malicious and marketable.
